Kazakhstan and China strengthened cooperation through a new agreement on water resources during a meeting led by First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar. The discussions encompassed trade, investment, and cultural exchange, resulting in the signing of various protocols to foster industrial and educational partnerships. Kazakhstan and China have formalized an agreement aimed at enhancing collaboration specifically in the water sector. This agreement was solidified during a working visit to China by Roman Sklyar, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, who participated in the 12th meeting of the Kazakh-Chinese Committee for Cooperation, supported by the government press service of Kazakhstan.
The Committee convened with representatives from the central state bodies of both nations. Key issues discussed included fostering a conducive environment for trade, strengthening transport connectivity, and working towards joint investment in Kazakhstan while localizing production. Additionally, they addressed the significance of expanding cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries.
Following the meeting, participants signed the Protocol of the 12th meeting. Notably, the Committee’s operational framework will now include the Coordination Committee for Industrial and Investment Cooperation, alongside a new Subcommittee focused on educational initiatives. Agreements were also made to enhance interdepartmental collaboration regarding water resource management and archival affairs.
Further discussions occurred between Roman Sklyar and Ding Xuexiang, the Vice Premier of China’s State Council, addressing vital collaboration sectors, including trade, investment, transport and logistics, agriculture, energy, and tourism. Both parties recognized the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, highlighted by a significant trade volume reaching $43.8 billion last year.
During the visit, additional meetings took place with leaders from key Chinese enterprises specializing in metallurgy, energy, mechanical engineering, and agro-industrial processes. The Kazakh delegation, consisting of ministry heads and influential local business leaders, explored opportunities related to joint investment projects in coal chemistry, automotive manufacturing, and renewable energy, among others.
The First Deputy Prime Minister articulated the necessity for industrial advancement in Kazakhstan and urged Chinese corporations to forge robust partnerships with Kazakh businesses. Concurrently, representatives from prominent Chinese companies conveyed their enthusiasm for Kazakhstan as a dependable partner for executing significant projects.
