A tragic accident in Vadodara involving a speeding Volkswagen Virtus sedan resulted in one death and multiple injuries. Survivor Vikas Kewalani detailed the horrific impact, while perpetrator Rakshit Chaurasia faces serious charges. The community seeks justice and advocates for stricter traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
On the night of the tragic accident in Vadodara, a Volkswagen Virtus sedan collided with scooters, resulting in devastating injuries and one death. Vikas Kewalani, a survivor of the incident, described how parts of a scooter were scattered in the air after the crash. He, along with other riders, was out for refreshments when the tragedy struck, claiming 35-year-old Hemali Patel’s life and leaving her husband in critical condition.
Kewalani recounted, “I stay in Fatehganj. I was out with my siblings and neighbors to grab some refreshments… Suddenly, a car hit us from behind. It was being driven at a very high speed.” He recalled the moment of impact vividly, noting that he witnessed debris flying in horror as he fell from his scooter, indicating the severity of the situation.
The perpetrator, 23-year-old Rakshit Chaurasia, a law student at MS University, has been apprehended for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Authorities are investigating the possibility that he was under the influence at the time of the crash, as initial tests revealed drugs in his system. Vikas and other victims suffered fractures in the incident, highlighting the accident’s catastrophic consequences.
Chaurasia has claimed that he was neither speeding nor intoxicated, attributing blame to mechanical failures. He stated, “I want to meet the family of the victims, it is my fault,” while expressing remorse. However, Kewalani described Chaurasia’s post-accident behavior as alarming, suggesting an intoxicated state: “No one in a normal condition would behave like this.”
Additionally, Vikas emphasized that punitive measures alone, such as traffic fines, are insufficient to deter future incidents. He advocates for stricter actions to address such reckless behavior. He expressed a personal commitment to seek justice for Hemali Patel, stating, “Hemaliben was like my sister. She should get justice and the young generation should know the impact of such acts.”
The Vadodara accident serves as a poignant reminder of the dire consequences of reckless driving and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws. Survivors like Vikas Kewalani are calling for accountability and justice for the victims, emphasizing that mere fines may not be sufficient to prevent future tragedies. The community is left grappling with the loss and the necessity of fostering safer driving behaviors in society.
