Two Indian nationals executed in the UAE were buried in presence of family members, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The burials adhered to local regulations, and legal support was offered by the Indian embassy. A third Indian national’s burial is pending.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that two Indian nationals, Shahjadi Khan and Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu, who were executed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), have been interred in the presence of their family members. The executions resulted from convictions for serious offenses, and the burials comply with UAE regulations.
Shahjadi, 33, from Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, was executed on February 15 after being found guilty of murdering a four-month-old child. Muhammed Rinash, originally from Kerala’s Kannur, was previously employed at a travel agency in Al Ain and was executed for the alleged murder of a UAE national. The burial of a third Indian national, Muraleedharan PV, is anticipated to occur following the completion of necessary formalities.
According to the MEA, Shahjadi’s burial took place in Abu Dhabi, where her family members paid their respects and participated in funeral prayers before the burial at Baniyas cemetery. The Indian embassy was notified of the executions by UAE authorities on February 28, subsequently providing legal support to the Indian nationals and their families.
The MEA also stated that embassy officials assisted in the last rites, ensuring that families could pay their last respects. The burial of Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu occurred on the same day, attended by his family as well. Shahjadi Khan faced a conviction for murder in 2022, and her death sentence was upheld by the UAE’s highest court on February 28, 2024, with her family’s mercy petition going unanswered since May 2024.
In summary, the executions of Shahjadi Khan and Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu were followed by their burials in compliance with UAE regulations, attended by family members. The MEA ensured that families received support during this difficult time. As the process for another Indian national, Muraleedharan, continues, it highlights the severe implications of criminal convictions in foreign jurisdictions.
