Kunal Kamra Critiques Mumbai Police for Visiting Parents’ Home in Ongoing Controversy

Kunal Kamra criticized Mumbai Police for visiting his parents’ home regarding remarks about Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He stated this was a misuse of public resources. Kamra, currently in Puducherry, was granted pre-arrest bail while facing allegations stemming from his controversial performance. He refuses to apologize unless mandated by courts.

On March 31, 2025, comedian Kunal Kamra criticized the Mumbai Police for visiting his parental home regarding remarks he made against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He expressed on X, “Going to an address where I haven’t lived for the last 10 Years is a waste of your time & public resources…” while sharing a photo from his current residence.

The police team visited Kamra’s parents’ house following his failure to respond to two consecutive summons related to the ongoing investigation. The comedian was required to appear for questioning at 11 am on the same day. His interim pre-arrest bail, granted by the Madras High Court until April 7, followed his expression of concern regarding a potential arrest by the Mumbai Police. Currently, Kamra resides in Puducherry, as indicated in his social media bio.

The police found no one at his parents’ residence during the visit. A substantial police presence was deployed at the society’s entrance to maintain order.

Kamra’s controversial remarks regarding Shinde have provoked significant backlash, prompting protests and vandalism at the venue where he performed. His January parody song that included derogatory references to Shinde incited anger among Shiv Sena supporters, resulting in a complaint by MLA Murji Patel.

Although Kamra faces allegations, he has stated he does not regret his comments and will only apologize if directed by the courts. He also denied rumors of receiving payment from the Opposition to criticize Shinde. Kamra had requested additional time to respond to prior summons, and despite the police’s insistence for his appearance, his counsel highlighted that he did not specifically mention any individual in his most recent performance.

Kunal Kamra’s ongoing legal troubles stem from his remarks against Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, resulting in police visits and public outcry. The comedian has articulated his criticisms of the police’s actions and maintains his position regarding freedom of expression. With interim bail in place, the situation continues to develop as Kamra prepares for further legal proceedings.
