Travis Alexander, an auditor and accountant from Johannesburg, South Africa, will join the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square for the General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April 2025. As one of 11 Global Participants, his selection followed a demanding audition process that evaluated his singing, vocal abilities, and sightreading skills.

From a young age, Travis has been immersed in choral music, starting in children’s choirs at age four, and progressing to the flagship choir at his university, which participated in the World Choral Olympics in Latvia and the Global Choral Symposium in Spain.

During his visit to Salt Lake City, Travis and the other global participants learned about the rich 170-year history of the Tabernacle Choir from former conductor Craig Jessop.

Travis expresses gratitude for the support from his family, particularly his wife Kayla and their two children, who form his ‘fan club.’ He holds the Tabernacle Choir in high regard, referring to them as exceptionally skilled musicians, and is eagerly anticipating his first in-person experience with the choir.

Reflecting on his role, he said, “The highlights so far include being set apart as a missionary as part of this assignment. I realize the sacredness and importance of being a missionary and representing my country.” He believes that his background has equipped him for this significant opportunity.

The April General Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is scheduled for April 5-6, 2025, and will be accessible through various online and broadcasting platforms.

Travis Alexander’s opportunity to perform with the Tabernacle Choir marks a significant milestone in his lifelong passion for music. His background and commitment to choral singing, coupled with the support from his family, have paved the way for this remarkable experience. The upcoming General Conference promises to be a testament to his dedication and represent South Africa on an international stage.
