Meerut Murder Case: Accused Were Long-Time Drug Users Before Crime

Two accused in the murder of Saurabh Rajput, Muskaan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla, had a history of drug abuse and consumed substances prior to the crime. The murder involved violent acts and attempted concealment of the body. Muskaan later confessed this gruesome act to her mother, leading to their arrest. Autopsy findings indicate extreme violence was employed in the murder.

In Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, two individuals charged with the murder of a former Merchant Navy officer, Saurabh Rajput, have been identified as long-time drug abusers. Muskaan Rastogi and her partner, Sahil Shukla, allegedly consumed psychotropic substances shortly before committing the crime on March 4, 2023. Reports indicate that the couple has been struggling with drug addiction since 2019, having previously sought drugs in tourist areas such as Manali and Kasol.

Following the murder, officials revealed that Muskaan and Sahil traveled to Himachal Pradesh seeking more drugs and attempted to deceive the victim’s family by communicating from Saurabh’s phone. The brutal act involved stabbing Saurabh multiple times and dismembering his body, which was subsequently concealed in a drum filled with cement. Police reports suggest that before the murder, Muskaan tampered with her husband’s prescription to procure sleeping pills, enabling her to drug him.

As investigations proceeded, Muskaan confessed to her mother, leading to their arrest on March 18. Autopsy reports confirmed Saurabh suffered three fatal stab wounds to the heart and was subjected to a violently executed disposal of his remains. The post-mortem also revealed that his severed head, dismembered limbs, and positioned legs indicated an extreme attempt to conceal him in a barrel. His death was attributed to shock and excessive blood loss.

Muskaan and Saurabh were married in 2016, having a daughter together who, according to Saurabh’s mother, indicated knowledge of her father’s fate, stating, “Papa is in the drum.” Currently, Muskaan has requested the appointment of a government lawyer for her defense, stating her family’s opposition and estrangement since the incident as reasons for her need for legal assistance.

The tragic case involving the murder of Saurabh Rajput by his wife Muskaan Rastogi and her lover Sahil Shukla highlights issues of addiction and domestic violence. The details of their drug history and the brutality of the crime raise significant concerns about societal and psychological factors at play. As the legal proceedings unfold, it remains crucial to address the underlying issues that led to such a horrifying outcome.
