The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that cherry trees in Tokyo began to bloom on March 24, marking a date five days earlier than in 2024. Full bloom is anticipated within approximately one week. An official confirmed six flowers on a monitored Somei-Yoshino cherry tree at Tokyo’s Yasukuni Shrine, surpassing the five flowers required for announcing the blooming status.

Additionally, on March 23, the Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms began to bloom in Kochi and Kumamoto prefectures, making them the first regions in Japan to witness the 2025 blossoms. These areas experienced a delay of one day in comparison to their usual blooming schedule. In Kochi, over 15 blossoms were identified on a monitored tree at Kochi Castle on the afternoon of March 23.

March 23 was characterized by sunny weather across much of Japan, with some regions recording maximum temperatures that exceeded 25 degrees Celsius.

The cherry blossoms in Tokyo have begun to bloom earlier than in previous years, with the Japan Meteorological Agency confirming such dates.
