A tragic incident occurred in Rawatpur, Kanpur, where 90-year-old Mohini Trivedi was fatally attacked by her pet German Shepherd. The attack happened last Friday, and the situation became public when her owner, Dheer Prashant Trivedi, requested the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) to return the dog to the family.
Authorities have confirmed that Mohini Trivedi sustained multiple injuries from the dog, which attacked her while she was in the courtyard. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Arti Singh, stated no formal complaint has been filed but has ordered an internal investigation. Doctors at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital subsequently declared her dead due to the severity of her injuries.
At the time of the attack, Mohini’s grandson and daughter-in-law were present but were unable to intervene due to their own injuries. Following the incident, police, accompanied by a KMC team, took the dog for observation. R K Niranjan, the chief veterinary officer, mentioned that a decision regarding the dog’s return to Dheer Prashant will be made following a careful assessment of the animal’s behavior.
The fatal mauling of Mohini Trivedi by her pet dog has raised serious concerns regarding the safe ownership of pets. The investigation by police and veterinary authorities will determine the future of the dog, while family members remain profoundly affected by the incident. The tragic event underscores the potential dangers associated with pet ownership, particularly concerning aggressive breeds.
