Eyewitness videos captured him shouting incoherently after the crash, including phrases such as “Another round” and “Om Namah Shivay.”
Hailing from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Rakshit Chaurasia is currently studying law at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. He lives in a Paying Guest accommodation while his family operates a tap business. Reports indicate that he was returning with a friend after attending Holika Dahan, a traditional bonfire event marking the eve of Holi.
In recounting the events leading up to the accident, Chaurasia indicated that his vehicle touched a parked scooter near a pothole while turning. He claimed to be driving at a speed of 50-60 km/h, although police authorities assert that he was exceeding speed limits. Chaurasia was driving his friend’s car, as clarified by DCP Panna Momaya, who also revealed that the police are seeking to apprehend the friend.
Initially, Chaurasia denied any consumption of intoxicants but later confessed to ingesting bhang, a cannabis product. He has acknowledged his role in the accident, stating, “I was told that one woman has died and a few have sustained injuries. I want to meet the family of the victims, it is my fault and whatever they want should happen.”
