The driver of the speeding car has been identified as Rakshit Chaurasia, a law student from MS University, who was accompanied by his friend Pranshu Chouhan. Eyewitnesses allege that Rakshit displayed signs of intoxication shortly after the crash, as he reportedly shouted nonsensical phrases before being assaulted by bystanders. He has since been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Rakshit has denied claims of speeding or being under the influence, attributing the accident to a pothole that caused the car to collide with another vehicle. “I was told that one woman has died and a few have sustained injuries. I want to meet the family of the victims; it is my fault,” he stated. In stark contrast, an injured party, Vikas Kevlani, asserted that he witnessed Rakshit driving at high speeds prior to the collision, emphasizing that traffic fines are inadequate to deter such reckless behavior.
