On Friday, a man attacked devotees with a rod at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, resulting in injuries to five individuals. According to reports from The Indian Express, one Sikh youth from Bathinda is in critical condition and is currently receiving treatment in the emergency section of the Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences & Research.

The police apprehended the assailant, identified as Zulfan from Haryana, along with another individual who had reportedly assisted him. A police spokesperson noted, “The second accused allegedly conducted reconnaissance along with the one who attacked devotees.” The incident transpired within the grounds of the oldest Guru Ram Das inn, located near the community kitchen.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), responsible for the temple’s management, reported that the assailant abruptly picked up a rod and began striking devotees. Reports from The Tribune indicate that Zulfan initially clashed with SGPC staff when questioned about his identity due to his suspicious behavior. Though he initially left, he returned armed and attacked both the staff and devotees attempting to restrain him.

In total, four individuals, including two SGPC helpers, sustained injuries during the melee. Following the incident, police arrested Zulfan, who also suffered injuries. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the motives behind the attack and gather further details regarding the assailant’s background.
