The recent Hampi rape case has drawn significant attention in India following the arrest of the third accused in Tamil Nadu. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah denounced the incident as a “heinous crime,” emphasizing the severity of the situation and the necessity for justice. Shivaraj Tangadagi, the Koppal district in-charge minister, confirmed the arrest of the third assailant, who had attempted to evade law enforcement by fleeing the state.
The assault occurred on March 6, when a group of tourists, including a 27-year-old Israeli woman, were victims of a violent gang-rape while stargazing near Tungabhadra canal. The group was approached by three youths under the pretense of asking for directions. Subsequently, when the tourists were unable to provide assistance, they were robbed and physically attacked. The homestay operator, 29 years old, and the female Israeli tourist were sexually assaulted, while three male companions were thrown into the canal during the altercation. Tragically, one of the males, identified as Bibash, was later found deceased.
In response to this grave incident, CM Siddaramaiah took decisive action by instructing police officials to conduct a thorough investigation and quickly apprehend the perpetrators. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar echoed these sentiments, pledging that the strictest legal action would be pursued against the offenders. He reaffirmed the commitment of law enforcement in pursuing justice for the victims.
