On Saturday, the bodies of three individuals, including a 14-year-old boy, were discovered in the Kathua district of Jammu & Kashmir. This tragic finding occurred three days after they went missing in a region known for terrorist activity. The deceased were identified as Yogesh Singh, Darshan Singh, and Varun Singh, who were en route to a wedding in Billawar town when they disappeared on Wednesday evening.
Following their disappearance, extensive search efforts by the Army and local police were initiated. One of the missing individuals had managed to contact his family two days prior, indicating they had lost their way in a forest. Tragically, their bodies were later located in a water body near the Lohai Malhar area, with the cause of death to be determined pending postmortem results.
Yogesh and Darshan hailed from Marhoon, while Varun was from Dehota, both locations within Billawar. Responding to the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson RS Pathania condemned the situation, calling it a “cold blooded murder” by terrorists. He emphasized the need for justice, stating, “One thing I want to assure is that the perpetrators will not go unpunished.”
The issue was also raised by BJP legislator Satesh Sharma in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, demanding government accountability regarding the missing civilians. Reports indicate that the area has a significant presence of terrorists and has experienced several attacks over the past two years, including a similar incident where two civilians were found dead last month.
